Christmas Memories and Traditions
Christmas to me is spending time with family, playing games like Trivial Pursuit, baking chocolate chip cookies from scratch with my dad, and decorating the Christmas tree with my mom. In the South, we rarely get snow, so I have a few memories of making snow men and snow angels, but most of my Christmases were spent at home or traveling to see my grandparents.
Now that I am a mom, I have worked on making our own Christmas memories. We made magical memories with my daughter with the Elf on the Shelf (Twinkle Toes and Shimmer Stars), visiting the Alabama Theater for a Christmas movie every year, and enjoying breakfast for dinner on Christmas eve followed by a candlelight church service, which is a Christmas tradition my family always did.
As I’ve gotten older, I have learned that Christmas isn’t just about giving gifts and making meals and memories, but it’s also about giving back and making time for those in need. I have been volunteering and working with The WellHouse for several years now, and last year my husband’s family and my family decided to bring them a Christmas eve meal, which we will continue doing this year.
What are your traditions? I hope you have some that you can pass down to your children and grandchildren that are meaningful and fun!
As I started decorating my home this year, I realized how little I’ve done to decorate in years past! I always put up a Christmas tree, but this year I had to step up my game! I spent some time thinking of some new and creative ways to add some Christmas cheer to little areas around my kitchen and dining room, and living room. We live in a small cottage style home that we renovated three years ago, and this will be our third Christmas here!
