I don’t know about you, but I, for one, have never been more ready for a new year than I am right now! I am ready to close the door on the mess that was 2020. I’m ready for a fresh, clean slate and new year! I’m ready to go on a strict healthy diet in January. I’m ready to start working out again. I’m ready to go big on organizing my house, and I’m ready to shed our belongings and give away things that have needed to be purged from our home for some time.
I’m ready to refocus on my goals both in my business and personally. I’m ready to move forward and see what the new year brings!
Are you feeling the same way?
Looking Back
While I look back on 2020, I remember all the tests and trials that we as a nation, and as a world, went through. I think we all have come out stronger in different ways, and more resilient, more understanding, but we’ve also all probably felt like we’ve been through the wringer, at times.
Looking back, I also reflect on the immense blessings we received. I started this blog in the middle of the pandemic, and I never thought it would grow to what it is today in the short amount of time it has. I wasn’t fully prepared for how this would impact my life, energize me, and give me something exciting to focus on while we were trying to get through 2020.
I never expected to connect with all of you in the ways I have. I received messages from some of you about how excited you are that you found something you loved on my blog, along with pictures of where you styled it in your home. I love seeing these! I love getting messages on Instagram about how I’ve helped you in some small way with decorating and making your house feel more like home.
This is so important to me. My mission with this blog is to help you cultivate a beautiful home from the inside–out. Why is this important? I think home should be a place you’re proud of, a place you can retreat, and a place where you and your family can make memories. For a long time, I didn’t have a home of my own. When I was a single mom, I really struggled without a place of my own to live, and I had to depend on family to get me through until I could make it on my own. When I finally was able to buy my first piece of real estate–a tiny condo–I was so proud! God has blessed me immensely since then and provided more than I could ever ask for in a home! Now being able to help others cultivate beauty in their homes is such a wonderful thing!
Transformational Faith
Side note – Giving my life to God was the best decision I’ve ever made, and I’ll tell you why. He has transformed me from the inside–out, and because I went through a really dark time in my life, that only He could pull me out of and restore me from, my faith has grown and I have assurance that God is good–and he is for us! In 2020, I was very anxious before the pandemic started. I didn’t know why, but I was more afraid than I’ve ever been. I’m normally not anxious. Then, when the pandemic hit, those feelings intensified. There were so many unknowns.
To be able to cope with what was going on, I started focusing on other things and turning off the news. I started cooking, coming up with fun things to do with my family at home while we were stuck at home, and that helped me pass the time. The news can fill you with anxiety if you watch it too much. Once I stopped watching, it’s like my mind cleared, and I felt peace again.
I turned to God for reassurance, for peace, and for comfort. I prayed–hard. I read His word, and I clung to the words I’ve heard in many sermons–He is GOOD. I tried to just remember during the scariest times of 2020 that God is GOOD, and he only wants good things for his children. I thought, he MUST have a plan with all of this. I think He does allow seasons of refinement, which are hard, uncomfortable, and scary sometimes, but He does this to push us into the next season. It’s like, our lives always get really uncomfortable right before a big breakthrough!
I am so grateful to have faith in a living God who is always there for me. I don’t know how people have gotten through this year without Him. At some point this year, I stopped being anxious, I stopped worrying, and I started focusing. I started this blog, and I just chose to not dwell on the problems going on but rather focus on something that was fun, joyful, and meaningful to me. That made all the difference.
I am hopeful that with the vaccine that we can all move on from this very soon. I am so hurt for all the families who have lost loved ones this year. I feel for the nurses and frontline workers who have so tirelessly scarified themselves to help others. What a strain it must be to do what you do! THANK YOU! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Still, I remain hopeful. 2021 will be better. I am certain 2021 is the year of breakthrough!!
