A Sail Boat Birthday Theme
This spring, my son turned 2! Because his 1st birthday party was cancelled due to the “stay at home” orders, we had a big celebration for 2! I wanted a sweet, boyish theme for him that would allow me to decorate with lots of blue and white, so we went with a sail boat birthday theme! My party-planner friend, Brittany with Parties by B, developed the ideas for decorations, and I used my Cricut machine and a crew of small2 businesses to help pull it off!
Decorations
Custom Cupcake Toppers, Cake Toppers, and Birthday Banner
I really enjoyed using my Cricut machine to make custom decorations for this sail boat birthday party. Brittany created a party plan for me, and it really helped me visualize the party! The decorations included seersucker tablecloths, moss boats for flower arrangements, and nautical decor. We set the kids’ tables with scalloped craft paper placemats and wooden flatware, blue plates and sailboat centerpieces! Here’s a peek at some of the cute decor:

Birthday Treats
Cake, Cookies, and Cupcakes, Oh My!
The best centerpiece for your birthday party food table is a cake on a cute cake stand! We got a simple 8″ round white cake from Publix with no writing or decorative icing on it, and I used Cricut cut outs for the toppers! We had plain white cupcakes too, and I topped them with custom toppers made from my Cricut.
Dogwood and Dough
My friend Katherine with Dogwood and Dough painted precious cookies in theme with the party and they were SO DELICIOUS! Everyone was raving about these cookies. I cannot explain how good they are! A Baker/artist duo, Dogwood and Dough is worth a follow on Instagram! Definitely keep them in mind for your next party!

Signage and Gift Tags
Honey Bear Pages
Honey Bear Pages (Instagram: @honey.bear.pages), an Etsy shop specializing in custom stationery, made some adorable signs and matching party favor tags for “Captain John Chapple’s” birthday! Here are a few snapshots of the signs and party favor tags! Definitely reach out to Honey Bear Pages for your next event! She’s amazing! I loved having custom signage to match the decor, and it was such a special touch to add custom gift tags to the party favors.
Balloons
Celebrate Birmingham
I’ve shared a DIY balloon arch tutorial on my Instagram before, but this time I decided to let the professionals help me out! There’s always so much to do when setting up for a party that creating an arch is just too much to handle. Celebrate Birmingham (Instagram @celebratebirmingham) created the most adorable “2” balloon decoration. She also made a jumbo balloon which I monogrammed with a vinyl cutout using my Cricut. She even threw in an extra 4 foot garland for over the doorway. Her team did such a great job, and they came and set it up and picked it up too. Balloons = done!
Party Favors
Lolly Crayons
The party favors might be my favorite thing to plan, for a party. It’s just so fun coming up with a unique and special thank-you-gift for the guests that fits the theme. I wanted to do something useful, not just a throw away toy. Lauren with Lolly Crayons (Instagram: @lollycrayons) makes the cutest custom rainbow crayons, and they are the perfect party favor! She made a sail boat, anchor, and each child’s initials, wrapped up in a cute little package!
HCDesigns Custom Crayon Boxes
The perfect pair to Lolly Crayons is custom crayon boxes by Heather with HCDesigns Boutique (Instagram: @_hcdesigns)! Heather made a crayon box with each child’s name on it, and it just made this gift so special for each child. I love how these bundled with the custom gift tag by Honey Bear Pages made for a sweet and special party favor!
Activities
Sail Boat Decorating
The activities for this two year old party had to be simple and keep the kids entertained! Brittany came up with the idea to have the kids decorate wooden sailboats and float them in the baby pool! While floating sounds so pleasant, all the toddlers loved throwing their boats in the pool, and it was really hysterical to watch.
Apple Sail Boats
To fit the sailboat theme, we had one more activity. We helped the kids make sailboats out of apples, toothpicks, and peanut butter, complete with an oar for spreading. This was really cute and easy for them to do.
Bouncy House
Additionally, we had a bouncy house, which you can never go wrong with at a young child’s birthday party.
