Tea for Two Party
“Tea for Two” Babydoll Brunch
This week, we celebrated Betsy’s second birthday with a “Tea for Two” tea party and baby doll brunch! I can’t believe my baby is already 2!! The past two years have flown by. Betsy has gotten so big so quickly in the last few months. I felt like this was her first birthday party that she would really understand and have fun participating in, so I wanted it to be special– a moment to remember.
A two-year-old’s birthday is a special milestone, and what better way to celebrate than with a charming “Tea for Two” theme? This baby doll brunch and tea party combines the imaginative play with baby dolls with the elegance of a tea party, creating a delightful experience for both the little guests and their parents. The “Tea for Two” theme is perfect for toddlers and young girls who love playing with dolls, and it provides a wonderful opportunity to create lasting memories. In this blog post, I will guide you through the decorations, activities, food, and shopping sources to make your child’s party a beautiful success.
Invitations
Start the excitement early with beautiful, themed invitations. Custom invitations featuring teacups, teapots, and baby dolls set the tone for the party. You can opt for DIY invitations using card stock paper or choose from a variety of ready-made options available online. Include a personal touch by adding a photo of your child or a cute rhyme inviting guests to the “Tea for Two” celebration.
I used a template from Etsy, which you can download and edit online. It was super easy to do, and it looks custom. I simply texted out the invitation, but you could print on card stock and trim them to mail out. This design is by a watercolor artist that I love, and she offers lots of digital watercolor art to coordinate, which you will see I applied to my party decorations. Shop the invite here.
Picking a Party Venue
Creating a magical tea party atmosphere involves thoughtful decoration. Choose a venue that is comfortable and spacious, whether it’s your living room, kitchen or dining room, backyard, or a nearby park. I chose my kitchen and living room to make it easier on my to decorate the night before and move things around if need be. I actually moved my kitchen table to make room for a kids size table and these darling chiavari chairs. That way, everyone could sit inside together.
Stick to a pastel color scheme with floral patterns to evoke a classic tea party vibe. Cover tables with pink or lace tablecloths and set them with mismatched china teacups and saucers. For this age group, I opted for paper teacups and plates, so there would be no need to worry about breakables.
Centerpieces can feature silver or vintage teapots filled with fresh flowers, while doll accessories scattered around add to the charm. I used my mother’s silver tea set filled with florals for a centerpiece on the food spread. Here are all the supplies I used from Amazon.
Party Activities
Tea Party Crafts
A craft or two is the perfect way to get a party started and get all the kiddos together in the same room. Provide supplies for decorating teacups, purses or hats. Print out some coloring sheets that match the theme. I used this adorable puppy tea party design! Ensure the craft activities are age-appropriate, with easy-to-use materials that do not require supervision.
Dress Up Station
A dress up station is also a fun way to get into the tea party theme, and the kids can take home the accessories! Simple pearl necklaces, gloves, hats, and fans are easy to supply and serve as a lovely keepsake for the guests. I created a little sign and put it in a scalloped frame to pull it all together. I decorated a wicker tea cart, fitting for the theme, to display the dress up accessories!
Baby Doll Care Station
One of the highlights of the party was the baby doll care station! The little friends loved playing with their babies in this designated baby care area (the living room!). I simply set up a table with all the necessities and arranged some cradles and a wicker pram for their babies.
You can provide a variety of outfits and accessories for the dolls, allowing the children to engage in imaginative play. Encourage guests to bring their favorite doll to join in the fun! This activity not only keeps the little ones entertained but also promotes social interaction and creativity. The little ones loved this and played for a long time with their babies together!
Tea Party Decorations
Finding the right decorations and tableware is essential for setting the perfect tea party scene. Party supply stores offer a wide range of themed decorations and tableware, but I didn’t see many offering tea party specific decorations, so I turned to online stores to get what I needed. I also used a lot of what I had at home, like my mother’s silver tea set, and my Juliska tea cups. I also used my Cricut to cut out paper decorations for the cake topper, signage and cupcake toppers!
For the entryway, I set up a table with a printed sign I downloaded from Etsy, some of the party favors, a ginger jar, and a bud vase from Sea Marie designs.
I found these really cute teapot party favor boxes which added a nice touch and were cute to display too.
Tea Party Food and Drink
The Kid-Friendly Brunch Menu
The brunch menu should be both delicious and suitable for young children. Mini sandwiches, such as PB&J and ham and cheese, are easy to handle and loved by toddlers. We had Ouslers mini sandwiches from mountain brook, which are always a hit.
We also served chicken minis from Chick-fil-A–always a fan favorite. Fruit kabobs with a variety of colorful fruits add a healthy and visually appealing option. I created yogurt parfaits with layers of yogurt, berries and granola, in miniature parfait cups for a fancy touch. Mini muffins and pastries are perfect bite-sized treats that children can enjoy without much mess.
Tea Party Treats
Sweet treats are a must at any tea party. Decorated sugar cookies shaped like teapots and teacups are not only delightful to look at but also delicious. Scones with jam and clotted cream bring an authentic tea party feel. Baby bites or tea cakes with tea party-themed toppers are sure to be a hit, providing both decoration and dessert in one. We also displayed macaroons and a small birthday cake, with a custom cake topper I made on my Cricut, to complete our tea party spread.
Beverages
For beverages, consider serving kid-friendly “tea,” such as lemonade or fruit-infused water, which are both healthy and appealing to young palates. Juice served in teapots adds a whimsical touch, and milk in mini bottles can be a charming addition. Ensure all drinks are served in child-friendly cups to avoid spills and accidents.
For the parents, we offered mimosas, coffee, and of course hot tea of their choice.
