21 Back-to-School Prayers for Your Children
As the new school year begins, there’s something about this season that stirs a mix of excitement, nerves, and fresh beginnings. New backpacks, sharpened pencils, class schedules—and for many of us—an extra layer of anxiety or uncertainty as we send our children into a world we can’t fully control.
That’s why this year, I wanted to pause and prepare differently.
Rather than just getting ready physically, I wanted to get ready spiritually. I’ve created a simple, powerful resource to help you do the same—a set of 21 Back-to-School Prayers you can pray over every person walking into a school building this year: students, teachers, parents, administrators, bus drivers, and more.
These aren’t just cute sayings or well-wishes. These are Scripture-based, heartfelt prayers meant to invite God’s presence, peace, and protection into the school year ahead.
Whether you’re a mom sending off her kindergartener for the first time, a teacher setting up her classroom, or a student walking into a new grade, these prayers will bless you. They’re short enough to pray aloud at drop-off, tuck into a lunchbox, or read during morning quiet time.
The Prayers
Protection
Lord, place Your hedge of protection around my children—body, mind, and spirit—as they go about each day.
“He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”
– Psalm 91:11
Courage
Lord, give my child courage to make new friends and face new challenges. Help them be brave!
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid… for the Lord your God goes with you.”
– Deut. 31:6
Friendship
Lord, lead my children to friendships that build them up, and help them be a loyal, loving friend in return.
“A friend loves at all times.”
– Proverbs 17:17
Integrity
Grow in my children a heart that chooses what’s right, even when no one is watching.
“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.”

Joy
Lord we thank you for fun days at school and pray for joy in theclassroom!
“The joy of the Lord is your strength.”
– Nehemiah 8:10
Peace
Lord, calm their anxious thoughts and surround their minds with peace that only You can give.
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
– Isaiah 26:3
Wisdom
Lord, give my children hearts that seek wisdom above popularity. Help them desire understanding of the material.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, ask God… and it will be given to you.”
– James 1:5
Kindness
Grow in my children hearts that reflect Your love—quick to include and care, slow to judge, and always showing kindness.
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
– Eph. 4:32
Compassion
Soften their hearts toward those who are lonely, different, or struggling. Make them compassionate like Jesus.
“Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
– Colossians 3:12
Confidence
Lord, fill my children with confidence that comes from knowing who they are in You. Let them walk into each day sure of their worth, not because of what they do, but because they are deeply loved by You.
“For the Lord will be your confidence…”
– Proverbs 3:26
Identity in Christ
Let my children know they are loved—not for their accomplishments, but because they belong to You.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”
– 1 John 3:1
Focus
Help my children stay focused and diligent, not for grades alone, but to honor You in how they use their minds.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…”
– Col. 3:23
Gratitude
Teach my children to see the good around them and to give thanks in all things—big and small.
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
– 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Purpose
Remind them that they are created for a purpose, and that even ordinary school days are part of Your plan for their lives.
“For we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ to do good works…”
– Eph. 2:10
Perseverance
When school days feel hard or overwhelming, give my children the grit to keep going and the faith to trust You with the outcome.
“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
– Galatians 6:9
Teachers
Lord, bless every teacher with wisdom, patience, and joy in the work You’ve called them to. May they see each student through Your eyes and feel encouraged in moments of weariness.
“Those who teach others will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.”
– Daniel 12:3
Staff and Administrators
Thank You, Lord, for every person who helps the school run smoothly. Bless them with strength and grace in the unseen, thankless moments. Let them feel appreciated and covered by Your love.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
– Colossians 3:23
Students
Father, go before every student this year. Whether they feel confident or unseen, joyful or burdened, remind them that they are chosen, known, and deeply loved. Lead them in truth, and help them know who You created them to be.
“Children are a gift from the Lord. They are a reward from Him.”
– Psalm 127:3
Bus Drivers
Protect and strengthen every bus driver as they carry precious lives each day. Fill their routes with calm, order, and kindness, and bless them with patience and alertness.
“The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
– Psalm 121:8
Building Safety
Lord, place Your hand of protection over every classroom, hallway, and playground. Let every corner of the school be covered in peace, safety, and divine protection.
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
– Proverbs 18:10
Parents
Lord, bless every parent with a child in school this year. Fill them with peace as they release their children into Your care each day. When worry creeps in, remind them that You love their children even more than they
do. Give them strength and energy for the early mornings, wisdom for the hard conversations, and grace for the growing-up seasons.
Remind them of the significance of their role in their child’s life. Grant them discernment on the hard days, and overflowing joy on the good ones. Father, fill their hearts with Your grace, patience, and gratitude. Empower
them to lead their children in godliness, training them up in the ways of the Lord each and every day.
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
